SSMC's Utility Division employs the best electronic sensing devices as GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) and records research to designate underground utilities and then uses highly mobile, safe, non-destructive vacuum excavation equipment to uncover and positively identify them. SSMC Utility Crews are additionally equipped with RTK GPS Receivers which enable them to quickly and accurately locate the exposed utility when performing Test Holes or when designating is being performed. Since utility crews are cross-trained in field survey methods with survey crews, the three dimensional mapping of utilities can follow the designation and location seamlessly.
Using CCTV cameras and a DVD/VHS Recording System, SSMC can now provide clients with color digital imagery and/or color digital video for inspection of pipes from 6 inches to 100 inches in diameter. By deploying a rover equipped with a robotically articulated video camera into pipelines, we can identify corrosion, deposits, foreign matter, cracks, deformations, offsets and erosion - in other words, accurate identification of all form of pipe problems.
In every case, the close integration of utility and survey crews delivers the highest quality and precludes the need to out-source any part of the underground mapping process.
